Arunachal Pradesh gears up for World Yoga day

Itanagar is all set to join rest of the world in celebrating the International Yoga Day with full enthusiasm on June 21.
Several organisations, which run yoga camps in the state, have come together to jointly host a mega celebration at I G Park here on the day from 7 AM onwards, International Day of Yoga Celebrations Committee, Itanagar (IDYCCI) said in a statement here today.
Hundreds of people, including school students, are likely to participate at the event, which is aimed at popularising and propagating yoga as a holistic technique of health and wellness.
The participants would perform the sequence of exercises as per the Common Yoga Protocol drawn up by the Minsitry of Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy (AYUSH), it said.
"The International Day of Yoga is a big moment for us. Yoga is an invaluable gift of Indian tradition. We have been working to preserve and promote our traditions. It's really heartening that the world has adopted a day to salute the vastness of yoga. We want to leverage this day to take the benefits of yoga to all people of Arunachal Pradesh irrespective of class, creed, culture, religion, etc," said Chairman of IDYCCI Gichik Taaza.
"Globally, yoga has become synonymous with relaxation, health, happiness, and a creative mind. The world is embracing it as a skill to enhance the quality of life. We want to reinforce this on the IDY," secretary of IDYCCI Nagesh Kumar Singh said.
Indigenous Faith and Cultural Society Arunachal Pradesh (IFCSAP), Patanjali Yog Samiti Arunachal Pradesh, Art of Living Arunachal Pradesh, Arunachal Vikas Parishad, Bhrahmakumaris, Arun Jyoti and Arunachal Shiksha Vikas Samiti have formed a joint organizing committee under the banner of IDYCCI.
June 21 was declared as the International Day of Yoga by the United Nations General Assembly on December 11 last year.
The declaration came after the call for the adoption of 21 June as International Day of Yoga by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi during his address to the UN General Assembly on September 27, 2014, the statement added.
