Responding to a Zero Hour motion brought by BJP member Laisam Simai in the assembly, PWD minister Gojen Gadi today said that work of the project worth Rs 5.49 crore began in 2011 with a target to complete it by 2014.
But after formation cutting works in 61 km of the 68 km-long road was completed, the company stopped work, he said.
The department served 12 notices to Delta SPC Company for the delay in response to which it resumed work on June last but stopped again for which a penalty of Rs 4.71 crore was imposed as a result of which the company assured to start the work soon in war footing, he said.
The condition of the road, which served as the lifeline for three circles in Changlang district, deteriorated and the company was not working on it despite repeated request, Simai said.
"Tirap, Changlang and Longding districts are known for wrong reasons but the people are peace loving, pro-government and want development to take deep roots," he said, adding, he had drawn the attention of Union Road, Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari when he visited Jairampur on April last to inaugurate the National Highway 513.
