Arunachal Pradesh recorded a marginal three per cent rise in crime till August this year in comparison to the previous year, according to Director General of Police S Nithianandam.
"A total of 1988 crime-related incidents were recorded in the state till August this year against 1930 registered during 2013. The increase is only three per cent which is quite marginal," the police chief said while talking to media here today.
Admitting that the crime rate had marginally increased this year, the DGP said while serious crimes like murder and attempt to murder had increased to an extent of six per cent, riot cases have showed an increasing trend of 25 per cent this year.
"The available data does not not amount to complete breakdown in law and order problem in the state," he pointed out and appealed all sections of the people to cooperate with the department by sharing crime related information with the police to control offenders and to check growing crime rates.
The police department, he said, had initiated several initiatives and many more were in the pipeline to control crime in the state.
Denying media allegations on the deteriorating law and order situation in the state capital following the abduction of a prominent businessman from his residence in the heart of the city recently, Nithianandam urged the press fraternity to cooperate with the police instead of criticising the department.
The 56-year-old businessman was kidnapped by some miscreants from his Naharlagun residence on August 28 and his decomposed body was recovered from a jungle near Hoj Basti, about 40 km from here, on September 5.
