Arunachal Pradesh government today said it is pursuing with Assam and the Centre to end the tension along the boundary with a permanent solution.
The government's reaction came in response to criticism by civil societies, including All Arunachal Pradesh Students' Union (AAPSU), that the state government is "not doing enough" for a permanent solution to the decades-old issue.
Bamang Tago, political secretary to Chief Minister Nabam Tuki, in a statement said the CM has been pursuing the issue on different occasions at appropriate levels.
"In recent times there have been several encroachment attempts by Assam Police and Assam Forest officials despite the existing agreement for maintaining status quo between the two governments till Local Commission came out with its report and a mutually agreed solution to boundary demarcation is arrived at," Tago said.
"The government officials at the top are in constant touch with their counterparts in Assam to avoid any untoward incident or trigger tension along the inter-state boundary... The chief minister personally has written to his Assam counterpart, who has assured of cooperation in maintaining peace and tranquillity along the boundary," he said.
