Union Water Resources Minister Harish Rawat has assured Arunachal Pradesh of expediting fund release amounting to Rs 550 crore for developing 27 sub-basins in the state without clubbing other Northeastern states.
The Arunachal Pradesh government has submitted the detailed project reports for the same, seeking fund under a special package in lieu of the Asian Development Bank's proposals, state Water Resources Development Minister Newlai Tingkhatra said in a statement here today.
The assurance came when Tingkhatra called on Rawat at New Delhi yesterday and apprised him of the problems being faced with regard to flood control and anti-erosion measures in the state which faces devastation caused by flood and erosion every year.
Rawat advised the state government to implement flood control and anti-erosion measures costing below Rs 10 crore under FMP (Flood Management Project) from its own resources as per the Central government guidelines, Tingkhatra informed.
Several other FMP proposals sent for technical vetting are being scrutinised by the Guwahati-based Central Water Commission (CWC) monitoring director, and several FMP proposals have been sent to the CWC New Delhi for techno-economical appraisal, Tingkhatra said.
