Asaram Bapu's followers attack media persons
Press Trust of India Mumbai A group of followers of Asaram Bapu today allegedly assaulted mediapersons and damaged their equipment, apparently angry at criticism over wastage of water at a pre-Holi function by the self-styled godman in drought-hit Maharashtra.
Asaram Bapu's followers pelted stones at television news channel reporters and assaulted them, damaging their video cameras, the police said.
Three suspects have been detained and a probe is on, a officer at the Rabale police station said.
The godman has drawn flak for the pre-Holi event organised at the Airoli grounds in Navi Mumbai at a time when Maharashtra is facing its worst-ever drought in more than four decades.
The spiritual leader recently ran into trouble after the Serious Fraud Investigating Office (SFIO) of the Union Ministry of Corporate Affairs sought his prosecution in a Rs 700-crore land grab case in Madhya Pradesh.
