ASEAN ambassadors to visit Guwahati on Nov 15

The 15-member group of ASEAN diplomats would be in the city in the run-up to the ASEAN-India Car Rally, official sources said.

During the visit, officials from the ASEAN countries are likely to talk about increasing trade and cooperation between the ASEAN region and north eastern states.

Among the diplomats who will visit Guwahati are Thailand's ambassador to India Pisan Manawapat, Brunei's ambassador Dato Paduka Sidek Bin Ali, Indonedia's Charge d'Affaires Hendra Henny Andries and ambassador of Laos Thongphanh Syackhaphom.

Besides, ambassador of Malaysia Dato' Tan Seng Sung, Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy of Philippines Maria Agnes M Cervantes, Deputy High Commissioner of Singapore Jonathan Tow and Ambassador of Vietnam Nguyen Thanh Tan, would also be present.

The rally will be kicked off from Yogyakarta in Indonesia on November 25. After covering eight ASEAN countries, the rally will enter India through the border town of Moreh in Manipur.

It will reach Guwahati on December 17 and after covering a distance of 8,000 km, the rally will culminate in New Delhi on December 20.
