The scrip ended 4.52 per cent higher at Rs 72.90 on the BSE. During the day, it gained 4.8 per cent to Rs 73.10 -- its 52-week high.
At the NSE, it climbed 4.51 per cent to close at Rs 73.
In terms of volume, 41.55 lakh shares of the company changed hands at the BSE and over 3 crore shares were traded at the NSE during the day.
Ashok Leyland today reported 36 per cent jump in total sales at 10,762 units for February, 2015, as against 7,915 units in the same month last year.
Light commercial vehicles sales also went up by 8 per cent and stood at 2,532 units against 2,339 units in February last year.
