The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) is focused on creating a global platform for students at both the universities. This will not only help Ashoka in creating an international curriculum but also will promote collaborative research, exchange programmes and help in formulation of a joint credit system, officials said.
"It is a very proud moment for Ashoka University to have Berkeley by its side. Currently, it is also very challenging for us as we are at a very nascent stage but we are very hopeful about our initiative," said Vice Chancellor, Ashoka University, Rudrangshu Mukherjee.
"I have been to India several times and have followed the country's education system avidly. Ashoka University shares a similar story and goal that of Berkeley's. I hope this partnership gets fruitful and benefits the students," said, Chancellor, University of California Berkeley, Nicholas B Dirks.
Sonepat-based Ashoka University, established in March 2014, claims to provide Ivy League standard of education in India and has already tied up with a number of other foreign institutes including University of Pennsylvania, King's College (London) and University of Michigan.
