ASI, 4 others held in robbery case

An Assistant Sub-Inspector of the North 24 Parganas district police and four others were arrested today for allegedly robbing a businessman of Rs five lakh, the police said.
A complaint was received from one Nabin Das, a jeweller, that five persons robbed him of Rs five lakh while he was waiting on the Belghoria Expressway along with another man on August 30, the police said.
Das told the police that the five persons came in a vehicle while he was waiting on the Expressway and robbed him at gun point, the police said.
During investigation, it came to light that Assistant Sub-Inspector Animesh Dey, posted at Haroa Police Station in the district, had committed the crime along with some his accomplices, they said.

Accordingly, the ASI and four of his accomplices were arrested today and further investigation was on, the police added.
