An Additional Sub-Inspector of Police (ASI) and four BMP constables were today suspended and an FIR lodged against them for robbing some labourers in a running train two days ago, an official said.
The Katihar railway SP Jitendra Mishra said that acting on the report of the DSP (Railway) Ravish Kumar, five cops, identified as Sunil Kumar Singh (ASI), Praveen Chaudhary, Rajesh Mandal, Vijay Kumar Das and Rajesh Kumar, all BMP constables, have been suspended and a FIR lodged against them under sections 341, 342, 323, 386, 504 and 506 of the IPC.
The five errant policemen, while escorting Danapur-bound Capital Express, had looted Rs 15,000 and valuables from about 18 labourers in the running train in Katihar district two days ago, Mishra said.
The accused had also ejected the labourers travelling on valid tickets near Kursela railway station, he said.
The railway SP said he had asked railway DSP Ravish Kumar to probe the matter and he found the charges against the members of escort party to be true.
