The Vigilance Investigation Bureau today caught an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of police while he was accepting a bribe of Rs 8,000 from a man in Patna district, a department release said.
Vigilance sleuths arrested Vinay Kumar Singh, ASI posted at Chowk police station in Patna city, while accepting a bribe of Rs 8,000 for helping the complainant in a criminal case, the release said.
Dayanand Singh, a resident of Kahaar Toli under Chowk police station of the state capital, had lodged a complaint with the vigilance bureau that the ASI was demanding a bribe of Rs 8,000 for helping him in a criminal case.
The complaint was verified by the bureau which found the allegations to be true after which a team was constituted under DySP Mohammad Zamiruddin who raided and arrested the ASI while he was accepting a bribe.
During the search, the vigilance sleuths also found Rs 1,30,200 from ASI's pocket in addition to the bribe amount of Rs 8,000, it added.
