ASI caught red-handed accepting Rs 5,000 bribe

Vigilance Investigation Bureau sleuths on Friday caught an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of police red-handed while accepting Rs 5,000 as bribe in Bihar's Nalanda district.

Vigilance team arrested one Sunil Kumar Mandal, an ASI, for allegedly accepting bribe of Rs 5,000 from Giriyak police station premises of the district, a Vigilance release said.

One Sunil Kumar- a resident of Adampur under Giriyak police station- had lodged a complaint with the vigilance department alleging that the said ASI Sunil Kumar Mandal had demanded bribe for sending a report to the court, it said.

Acting on the complaint, a vigilance team headed by Deputy Superintendent of Police Mohammad Zamiruddin, laid a trap and caught one Sunil Kumar Mandal, an ASI posted at Giriyak police station, red-handed while allegedly accepting the money from same police station premises,the release said.

The team also recovered an additional amount of Rs Rs 18,190 from Mandal's possession, the release added.

The accused would be produced before a special vigilance court (I) on Saturday at Patna after interrogation, it said.
