ASI held for raping 23-year-old

A police officer was arrested for allegedly repeatedly raping a 23-year-old girl over four years on the pretext of marrying her, police said today.
"Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Ashutosh Kaushik (29), posted at Bilaspur SP office, was apprehended yesterday on the charge of rape after the victim filed complaint against him," SP Ratanlal Dangi said.
According to the police, the girl, a resident of Kasturba Nagar in Bilaspur town, had been in a relationship with Kaushik since 2009.
Kaushik was a resident of her neighbourhood and after joining the police force, he shifted to Sakri area, they said.
The girl had agreed for a physical relationship with the accused as he promised to marry her, they added.

However, she approached police after she came to know that Kaushik got engaged to another woman.
A case under Section 376 (rape) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered against the ASI, they said.
