Upset over not being given preferential treatment, the husband and son of an Akali sarpanch allegedly assaulted a pregnant nurse after she told them to wait to get their patient admitted at a private hospital here.
The incident occurred in Bagha Purana town yesterday when Paramjit Singh, husband of Akali sarpanch Daljit Kaur, and their son Gurjit Singh came to a private hospital along with a patient, police said today.
Paramjit Singh, who is also a local Akali leader, wanted the hospital staff to admit the patient without delay.
The nurse asked them to wait for two minutes so that she could call the doctor.
The duo, however, was reluctant to wait and soon started quarrelling with her. Paramjit slapped the nurse and when she resisted, he allegedly pushed her.
A case was registered against Paramjit Singh and his son on the charge of slapping and assaulting the nurse.

An FIR under Section 451/323 and 506 the IPC has been registered on the complaint of the nurse, a native of Kotla Mehan Singh Wala village, police said.
"The Akali leader wanted VIP treatment. He did not want to wait for the doctor to get his patient admitted at the hospital," the nurse claimed.
"The SAD leader's son too hit me in front of my colleagues," she alleged, adding the duo also used derogatory language against her.
The entire incident was recorded in a CCTV camera installed inside the hospital.
Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee president Amarinder Singh, meanwhile, condemned the "brutal" incident.
"Better tame your goons, lest they will be lynched by people as public anger is mounting against you," he warned Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal in a statement issued here.
"While the Akalis are already known for the criminal intimidation and arm-twisting of people, the recent incident at Bhagha Purana is disgusting and shameful and the culprits deserve to be hanged from the lamp post," he said.
The PCC president maintained that such incidents were the symptom of the "deterioration" of the law and order that has already "collapsed" in the state.
