"The government of Assam has conferred the prestigious Asom Ratna award for the year 2012 posthumously on celebrated writer Late Mamoni Raisom Goswami, in recognition of her contribution to the field of literature and towards promotion of peace and brotherhood," an official statement said.

Goswami, a Ramayani scholar who won the Jnanpith award in 2000 for her overall contribution to Assamese literature, passed away in November last year.

The Asom Ratna award was instituted by the state government in 2008.

She was also honoured with the Asom Sahitya Sabha Award and the International Tulsi Award from Florida University for her book 'Ramayana- Ganga to Brahmaputra.'

She refused the Padma Shri in 2002.

Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi had last month said that an award would be instituted after Goswami soon and conferred on litterateurs annually.
