The 12-hour Assam bandh called by various wings of the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) today evoked mixed response with sporadic incidents of violence in different parts of the state.
Stone pelting, burning of tyres and minor scuffle between police and bandh protestors were reported from different parts of the state, but there was no report of any casualty or injury, official sources said.
The bandh has been called to protest against the recent rape and killing of two women and also against spiralling prices of essential commodities.
Shops and business establishments remained closed though schools and educational institutions remained open in most districts of the state.
Buses and other heavy vehicles remained off the road though private vehicles were plying without any hindrance.
The bandh had no impact on train services with most trains running as per schedule, North Eastern Frontier Railway spokesman said.
Flights also remained unaffected, sources added.
