"We have to clear path for others. It is better to give way to newer people... After the elections, I will put a good offer and will definitely do something," Sarma told reporters here.
He did not clarify what exactly he meant by "definitely do something".
He also did not specify whether he would go back to work in the party or take a less important portfolio.
"If we do not leave our positions, there is bound to be discontent among the MLAs, who also want a reshuffle in the cabinet," Sarma said.
He said "there was discontent and it still exists" but all had decided during a special Congress Legislature Party meeting last year to keep their discontent away till completion of the Lok Sabha elections.
"If nothing happens after the polls, discontent is bound to come back. So, we must give chance to other people," Sarma said.
