Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today expressed concern over the spurt in crimes, including kidnapping and extortion in Guwahati city.
"Prompt action has to be taken to deal with all types of crime. Laxity on the part of the police would not be tolerated," Gogoi said, adding performances of police officials would be evaluated and based on that necessary action would be taken.
The Chief Minister also directed the police to gear up night patrolling in the city, especially in the lanes and by lanes in order to check incidents of crime.
Gogoi asked the police to involve the people of the localities to check crimes, a statement said.
According to an official release, Gogoi also ordered the police administration to take necessary measures to thwart the sinister designs of communal forces hell bent on disrupting the social harmony prevailing in the state.
