The chief minister discussed with the officials about the measures adopted to prevent further erosion, it said.
Sonowal said the state government has initiated several measures to control flood and erosion in Assam and directed the officials to carry out stabilisation work on a war footing.
The water resources department officials informed the chief minister about the steps undertaken so far and said that officials from other divisions have also been included to bring the situation under control, the release said.
MP Kamakhya Prasad Tasa, Jorhat district deputy commissioner Virendra Mittal and several other MLAs and department officials accompanied Sonowal during his visit, the release added.
