"We are working in close cooperation with our Arunachal Pradesh counterpart to check the activities of Maoists along the Sadiya border", Choudhury told PTI here.

Referring to the death of four Maoists in an encounter in Tinsukia district yesterday, which was first of its kind in the state, the DGP said intensive efforts had been launched in the area to check their entry into the state.

Choudhury had earlier voiced concern over the growing presence of Maoists in the upper Assam districts of Tinsukia, Dibrugarh and Sibsagar near Arunachal.

The DGP said Maoists always worked on long term strategies and cited the example of Jangalmahal in West Bengal where CPI(Maoist) had been working for 13 years to build up a base.

The best strategy would be to check the activities of the Maoists from the beginning before they became active by recruiting fresh cadres, he said.
