"Let the festival strengthen the secular fabric of the nation and foster unity, fraternity, joy, reciprocity and togetherness among the people," the Governor said in a statement.
The Governor also urged all to spare a thought on the occasion of this festival of colours towards the preservation and promotion of Assam's wonderful flora and fauna and to prevent their destruction.
He asked the people to welcome the advent of spring in a colourful way as it "Heralds our New Year to be celebrated next month".
