Assam govt focusing on weavers: Minister

Addressing an event at Mangaldoi in Darrang district, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Fisheries, Information & Public Relations Basanta Das today said that besides weaving, the government has also started a scheme titled 'Lakhi' for women engaged in fisheries.

Das said the schemes undertaken by the state government should be widely propagated so that people at the local level are able to take their benefit, according to an official statement.

The minister distributed Jacquard machine, weaving machine and other equipments among 20 self-help groups of weavers during the event.

At another event held at Mangaldoi Circuit House, Das distributed cheques worth Rs Two lakh to next of keen of seven persons who had lost their lives during the recent floods in Darrang district.
