Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today said that his government had handed over the chit fund cases to CBI, including that of Saradha, in 2013 much before the Supreme Court directed the investigating agency to probe the scam.
"The state government had asked the CBI to probe into 15 chit fund cases, including that of Saradha and of these, it took up two cases only," Gogoi said in a statement here.
"Much before the apex court asked the CBI to probe into the Saradha scam, the state government had entrusted the investigating agency with the chit fund cases, including that of Saradha," he said.
The state government had handed over the cases to CBI so that the duped poor investors get back their hard-earned money and the scamsters are brought to book.
It may be mentioned here that the state government handed over the cases to CBI vide letter No. PLA(V) 151/2012/186 dated 6th May, 2013 while the Supreme Court entrusted the cases to the investigating agency on 9th May, 2014.
The CBI today conducted raids in connection with the Saradha chit fund scam in 12 locations in Guwahati, including at the residences of former Assam minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, his wife's news TV channel, MLA Anjan Dutta, former state DGP Sankar Barua and popular singer Sadananda Gogoi.
