Assam Guv, Kashmiri singer to be conferred SaMaPa music awards

The awards have been set up by Sopori Academy of Music and Performing Arts and carries a cash prize and a citation.

Patnaik will be conferred the SaMaPa Kala Vardhan Samman for his "enormous contribution" towards the growth, development and promotion of art, culture and languages of the country.

Mehra has been selected for the SaMaPa Sher-e-Kashmir Sheikh Abdullah award for her lifetime dedication and contribution as a singer in the field of Kashmiri and Dogri music.

The awards will be presented to them and other awardees at the two-day 'SaMaPa Sangeet Sammelan' to be held in Kamani Auditorium here starting November 24.

Vidhushi Shanno Khurana and Pandit Manilal Nag have been chosen for 'SaMaPa Vitasta Award' for their contribution to Hindustani music while S Sahaya Ranjit is being honoured with 'SaMaPa Acharya Abhinavgupt Samman' for his contribution as a music critic.

Upcoming vocalists Ritesh and Rajnish Mishra have been selected for 'SaMaPa Yuva Rattan Samman'.

The awardees were selected by a panel including SaMaPa Chairman and prominent musician Bhajan Sopori and Union Minister Farooq Abdullah.
