Union minister Radha Mohan Singh today said the Assam government has submitted a Rs 6,000 crore proposal for overall development of various agri-related sectors in the state.

"The Assam government has come up with an integrated cooperative development project for the whole state. The project cost is about Rs 6,000 crore," Singh, the union minister for agriculture, said at a press conference here.

The project will cover all potential sectors like agriculture, organic farming, horticulture, animal husbandry, fisheries, cold storage, food processing and computerisation of the cooperatives, he said.

"The central government is taking all out effort to strengthen the cooperatives in Assam through National Coopeartive Development Corporation. If we do that new avenues for employment will be generated," Singh said.

The minister said that the government is to double farmers' income by 2022 and the recent decision to hike the MSP of kharif crops by 1.5 times is a step in that direction.

"We are working with the states to put in place a system that will ensure MSP to farmers. We are trying to make it an error-free one. Once it will be there, our farmers will get MSP in every crop," Singh said without elaborating on the proposed system.
