She was speaking at a programme where Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi released acclaimed Assamese film-maker Jhanu Barua's latest movie 'Baandhon' (Waves of Silence).
Gogoi, who took the initiative in arranging finance for the film by the Assam State Film (Finance and Development) Corporation (ASFFDCL), said, "The government has to step in to revive the film industry which is passing through a difficult phase."
He hoped the film would turn the wheels of fortune for the state film industry which was passing through an acute funds crunch.
"There is no dearth of talent in the film industry. But due to funds crunch and dwindling viewership the Assamese film industry has been in a deep quagmire," Phukan noted.
Jahnu Barua hoped the movie would get the kind of support from the filmgoers the Assamese film industry was looking forward to".
Barua introduced some of the cast and crew members of the film who included, among others, actors Bishnu Khargoria, Jatin Bora and Zarifa Wahid.
