Deputy Chief of Army Staff Lt Gen Subrata Saha today said the Assam Regimental Centre will observe its platinum jubilee later this year in Shillong where it was raised in 1941, and in Shimla.
The celebration will be held in mid June in Shimla while in Shillong it will be observed from November 16 to 19, Lt Gen Saha told reporters.
As part of the celebration, an expanded war memorial and museum will be inaugurated here besides other activities, including a motorcycle rally.
World War II veteran Subedar Nu Naithang, who is above 90-years-old and currently lives in Shillong, will be present at the ceremony.
Saha was here as part of the passing out parade of the 315th batch of the Assam Regimental Centre wherein 295 recruits graduated from the Army Training Centre.
Speaking at the attestation parade, Lt Gen Saha said the Assam Regiment has earned seven battle honours, three theatre honours, nine Chief of Army Staff citations, 23 Army Commanders citations and two United Nations citations apart from 55 individual honours in the pre-independence era and 1,548 after the independence.
"This is by no means an ordinary achievement," he said.
Complementing the passing out batch for their immaculate standards, the Lieutenant General encouraged the warriors from the north east to persevere in pursuit of excellence.
