"The committee's objective is to see whether the Supreme Court guidelines are followed in various government and non-government organisations and we found that different organisations in Assam were complying with the guidelines", Chairman of the Committee Shantaram Naik told reporters here.
The Supreme Court guidelines will remain in force till the legislation on Protection of Women Against Sexual Harassment at Workplace Bill, 2010, which is currently pending in Parliament, becomes a law, he said.
"The Committee is trying to ascertain whether there is any gender discrimination involved in the matter of recruitment of women and whether they are getting proper promotional avenues or not", Naik, a Rajya Sabha MP, said.
The seven-member committee was currently on a three day visit to Shillong, Guwahati and Imphal to ascertain the views of the state governments, members of the bar and corporate bodies on the Citizens Charter Bill, Infrastructure Development of subordinate courts.
The issues related to status of women in the matter of harassment at work place and their service conditions were among the other issues reviewed b the committee.
Naik said that the Citizen Charter Bill was a legislation for the 'Aam Aadmi' as after the Bill becomes a law, citizens will get services like birth certificates, caste certificate, income certificates, ration cards and record of rights certificates within stipulated time that will be prescribed under the Rules framed under the Act.
