Assam to provide Rs 5,000 each to 4.5 lakh differently-abled

Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal today announced that the government will provide a one-time medical allowance of Rs 5,000 each to 4.5 lakh differently-abled persons in the state.
The government is committed to help the differently-abled people of the state and the medical allowance will be enhanced to Rs 12,000 from the next financial year, Sonowal told a delegation of Pratibandhi Suraksha Sanstha, Assam and Dristiheen Parishad, Assam.
The chief minister also asked the delegation to further meet the chief secretary for an early settlement of their demands, an official release said.
The delegation had raised several issues during discussion including filling up of vacancies, unemployment allowance and special TET for the differently-abled and others.
Sonowal assured to look into them sympathetically and said that he has already directed the chief secretary to take necessary steps for carrying out survey of vacant positions in different government departments in order to make an assessment for filling up the same, it added.
