As per an official release, these battalions will form a second line of vigil by patrolling and assisting the existing security mechanism along the international border.
The battalions will be deployed in four districts of Dhubri, South Salmara-Mancachar, Karimganj and Dhubri that share international border with Bangladesh," it said.
The commandants, who will be in charge of these battalions, will also be acting as Superintendents of Border Police.
Chief Minister Sonowal also directed the Home Department to modernise 14 border outposts to thwart any evil design stemming along the border.

The Chief Minister directed the senior police officers to extensively use these watch outposts to intensify vigil along the inter-state and international boundaries.
Sonowal asked the Director General of Assam Police Mukesh Sahay to undertake regular inspection tours to the char areas.
He also mooted the idea of undertaking parallel tour to the char areas by the National Cadet Corps personnel along with the DGP so that the prevailing socio-economic condition of the areas become evident on a wider spectrum.
