Assault of worker of a car service centre triggers protest

Physical assault of an employee by the owner of a car service centre here triggered widespread protest by various groups today.

Video of the assault had gone viral in the social media last evening with the footage showing an employee in the uniform of the service centre kneeling down while the owner and other employees celebrating his plight.

Activists from Youth Kisan Conclave, Yuva Kisan Mahotsav, Lachit Sena, Sadou Asom Unnayan Parishad and other organisations along with employees of the service centre staged demonstration demanding that the accused owner be arrested and he apologise publicly to the concerned employee.

RTI activist and Krishak Mukti Sangram Parishad (KMSS) leader Akhil Gogoi and the protesting organisations after a discussion with the general manager of the service centre told reporters that the demonstration would continue till the owner apologised publicly.

The striking employees demanded that they continue to get their daily wage till he (the owner) did so.

Police was seen trying to appease the demonstrators whose protest affected movement of traffic on the commercial busy G S Road adjacent to the Secretariat.

Youth Kisan Conclave and Yuva Kisan Mahotsav had last night lodged an FIR at Dispur Police Station against the car centre owner for allegedly assaulting the employee.

Meanwhile, All Assam Automobile Labour Union has condemned the incident claiming such harassment of workers happen in many private companies across the state.
