Assets estimated to run into crores of rupees, disproportionate to known sources of income of a senior education official, were unearthed during searches on his properties in East and West Godavari districts besides Bengaluru, the state anti-corruption bureau said Tuesday.

The accused officer Myle Prabhakara Rao, who was assistant director in the district educational officers office in Kakinada, was arrested on September 20 while receiving a bribe of Rs 10,000 from an employee, an ACB release said.

In continuation of the investigation into the case, the anti-corruption bureau (ACB) detected huge assets disproportionate to Rao's income, agency Director General R P Thakur said in the release.

Special teams of ACB conducted searches on Rao's properties of Rao in East and West Godavari districts and also Bengaluru Tuesday and found seven vacant sites measuring hundreds of square yards in various places like Bengaluru, Vizianagaram, Kurnool and East Godavari in his name.

He also owned a residential flat in Vizianagaram and a residential building in Rajamahendravaram, the release said.

Three vacant sites and a shop were found registered in the name of Raos wife Vijaya Kumari, it said.

Among other assets, the accused possessed half kilo gold ornaments, 4.11 kg of silver, Rs 6.25 lakh in cash, promissory notes for Rs 6 lakh and bank balances amounting to Rs 1.96 lakh, the release said.

He also owned a car and a two-wheeler, it added.

ACB sources estimate that the value of the assets could run into several crores.
