Assistive devices given to beneficiaries

Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and Union Minister Krishan Pal Gurjar today distributed 6232 assistive devices to 3368 specially abled beneficiaries of Jorhat and Sivasagar districts.
The assistive devices costing Rs 2.49 crore, were distributed at Amguri in Sivasagar district under the Assistance to Disabled Persons for Purchase/ Fittings of Aids and Appliances (ADIP) Scheme, an official release said.
The scheme is aimed at enabling the specially abled or the Divyangajans to lead a dignified life and provide them an equal opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the society.
The Chief Minister said that differently abled citizens have the ability in helping the state become one of the developed states in the country provided they are given all facilities and a conducive environment to achieve their optimum potential.
"Unless and until every section of the society is developed equally 'Sabka Sath Sabka Vikash' cannot be a reality and it is the duty of every able bodied individual to help them to live a dignified life", he added.
The Chief Minister also informed the government is going provide Rs 1000 as a monthly stipend to each specially abled citizen of the state from next year.
Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Krishan Pal Gurjar while speaking on the occasion, said his ministry has been taking steps to issue Universal Identity Cards to specially abled citizens which will be valid across the nation enabling them to get various services.
He also said that agreement has been signed with a German company to manufacture modern equipments at Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India (ALIMCO) for the specially abled of the country which would be provided by the government.
