The vigilance department sleuths today arrested an assistant executive engineer and the wife of a DLR peon in connection with separate disproportionate asset cases.
Pramod Kumar Mohapatra (57), assistant executive engineer, road and building (R&B), Paralakhemundi division in Gajapati district, was arrested from here about nine months after a case of disproportionate income was registered against him.
Similarly, Durgasi Gangamma (40), wife of Durgasi Narayan, the DLR peon of check-gate, was also arrested for allegedly abetting her husband in accumulating properties beyond his known source of income, said vigilance SP (Berhampur) Manoranjan Panda.
The sleuths had conducted raids at the houses of D Narayan in different places, including Sabaradeipeta under Jarada police station limits in Ganjam district on September 11 and had found properties worth over Rs 96.20 lakh.
"It shows that she was abetting her husband to accumulate the disproportionate properties," said an officer.
The vigilance sleuths had also conducted raids at the house of Mohapatra and his office in Paralakhemundi on January 12, 2015.
"During investigation, we found he has gathered disproportionate assets worth around Rs 1.63 crore," said Panda.
As Mohapatra could not give satisfactory reply on his income, he was arrested, the SP said.
