The Executive Council of the HPU in a meeting today opened the "sealed" envelops. Interviews for 32 posts of assistant professors were held in 2012 while interviews for 28 posts were held in 2015 but the envelopes could not be opened as selections were challenged in the court.
The shortage of faculty in the University had been a major issue and even the High Court had taken notice of it and asked the varsity to fill the vacancy posts time and again.
The UGC had recently exempted the candidates registered for MPhil/PhD programme before July 11, 2009, from clearing the National Eligibility Test (NET) or the State-Level Eligibility Test (SLET) in order to become eligible for appointment as assistant professors in colleges and universities.
However, this exemption is only valid if the candidate has fulfilled certain conditions including that his/her PhD degree should be awarded in regular mode, the research thesis should have been evaluated by at least two external examiners, the candidate should have appeared for viva-voce and have published at least two papers based on the PhD thesis in research journals.
