ASTC plans special bus service on Independence Day

The ASTC City Service will operate its special services from different points of Guwahati to Khanapara to facilitate participants attending the ceremonial function of Independence Day celebration at Khanapara Veterinary College playground here on August 15.
The services would be available from 7 AM on the day in addition to normal services, government sources said today.
The government-run Assam State Transport Corporation (ASTC) has issued route details of the Special Service which said buses plying towards Khanapara from Narengi would go through Chachal; from Noonmati via Zoo Road; from Basistha Mandir via Jaya Nagar; from Church Field via Paltan Bazar.
The bus service would also ply from Church Field via Chandmari; from Church Field via Lokhra; from Jalukbari via Paltan Bazar; from Jalukbari via Lokhra (ISBT); from Gorchuk via Saukuchi-Bhetapara; from ISBT via Lokhra and from ISBT via Lalganesh Kahilipara, the sources said.
Meanwhile, five militant outfits of North East including the ULFA(Independent), have called a 'General Strike' from 1 AM to 5.30 PM on Independence Day to boycott the celebrations of the day.
Besides ULFA(I), the other outfits are Hynnewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC), Kamtapur Liberation Organisation (KLO), National Democratic Front of Boroland (NDFB) and National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT).
Essential services, emergency facilities, media and religious activities have been exempted from the purview of the strike.
