Senior CPI(M) leaders and Parliament members P K Sreemathi and T N Seema lodged a complaint with the NCW and sought immediate action against those involved in the incident during the unprecedented violence which marked the Budget presentation in the Kerala Assembly recently.
The complaint, addressed to NCW Chairperson Lalitha Kumaramangalam, alleged that some members of the ruling United Democratic Front (UDF), including senior Congress leaders, physically pushed Left Democratic Front women MLAs Jameela Prakasham, E S Bijimol, K K Lathika, Saleeekha and Geetha Gopi in the Assembly and assaulted them without any provocation.
Though the women legislators submitted complaints to Assembly Speaker against the harassment by the ruling front MLAs, K Sivadasan Nair, M A Wahid, Beeny Behenan, A T George and the male watch & ward staff, no action had been taken against them so far, it said.
"Under these circumstances, we would urge the National Commission for Women to intervene in this matter and take urgent measures to ensure speedy justice as per law," the letter, a copy of which was released to media, added.
