The decision in this regard was taken at a cabinet meeting presided over by the Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, the Principal Secretary (Planning and Development) Vijay Prakash told reporters.

All SC/ST students from Class I to X will be required to ensure 75 per cent attendance in their classes from April 1 to September 30 of a year to be eligible to receive the scholarship from the state government, he said.

The requirement of 75 per cent attendance in classes by the SC/ST students was consistent with the state government's policy for eligibility for other benefits like the Chief Minister's girl uniform scheme and bicycle scheme for boys and girls, Prakash said.

The scholarship amount will be disbursed to the SC/ST students in the second half of the financial year and the state government will incur an annual expenditure of Rs. 433 crores on this head, the Principal Secretary (Planning and Development) said. (More)
