Auditor caught accepting Rs one lakh bribe

A special auditor has been arrested by the sleuths of Anti-Corruption Bureau for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs one lakh at his residence here.
Auditor Vijay Dattatreya Sawant, working in Nashik's special audit office, was arrested last night when he was receiving the sum for dropping the transaction of a big amount from the complainant and his wife's accounts to avoid a criminal case against them, a ACB release said today.
Sawant had demanded Rs two lakh from the duo of Shri Ganesh Co-operative Credit Society at Pimpalgaon after the audit revealed that the wife had made transactions in the entity's accounts.
He told them that a criminal case can be avoided for a bribe and the final matter was settled for Rs 1.60 lakh, the release said.
Following this, the complainant informed ACB, which arrested Sawant.
