Samajwadi Party leader Shivpal Singh Yadav today termed the Ajeetmal incident, where body of a 13-year-old girl was recovered from the railway tracks in Auraiya district, as unfortunate.
The senior Cabinet minister in Uttar Pradesh government, who went to Auraiya to console the family members of the girl, said "it was an unfortunate incident which was being probed and stern action would be taken against the culprits."
"Taking a tough stand, the government has decided that stern action would be taken against officers found lax in execution of their duties," he said.
The victim had gone missing on May 31 and three days later her body was recovered from the railway tracks near Phaphundpur railway station in the district on June 2.
The father of the deceased, Amritlal, has alleged that his daughter was abducted, raped, and then murdered.
He said despite a complaint of kidnapping, police only registered a missing case and did nothing to trace her.
