"Today is an auspicious day for us. Among 18 seats where by-elections were held, UPA has won 11 and NDA only seven. These results have come within 60 days of Modi government coming to power," he said, speaking at a convention of Telangana unit of Congress.
The two-day convention to discuss future course for Telangana Congress, which concluded today, came in the wake of the setback suffered by Congress in the assembly and Lok Sabha elections in Telangana despite the UPA government meeting the demand of separate state.
Regretting that Congress did not get the expected public support in Telangana, Singh, in-charge of party affairs in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, had said yesterday that the party machinery might not have succeeded in conveying to the masses the prominent role of Congress in creation of separate state.
Singh had also announced yesterday that Congress would go it alone in the by-election to the Medak Lok Sabha constituency, necessitated by the resignation of K Chandrasekhar Rao after he became the Chief Minister.
