Authinathan becomes Additional Judge of Madras High Court

Principal Sessions Judge of Chennai, N Authinathan, who retired from service onJanuary 19this year, has been elevated to the High Court and appointed Additional Judge.
A notification to this efect from the Union Ministry of Law was received by the Madras High Court today.
He had served in several districts including the Nilgiris and Coimbatore as District Judge.
Authinathan's name was pending consideration of the Supreme Court and the Centre for elevation, along with eight other names since 2015.
Of them, six names - Justice V Bharathidasan, Justice D Krishnakumar, Justice S S Sundar, Justice M V Muralidharan, Justice P Kalaiyarasan and Justice B Gokuldas were cleared and they were appointed as judges of High Court.
With his appointment, the sitting strength of Madras High Court will go up to 39, as against the sanctioned strength of 75.
Already 17 names, out of 21 people recommended by the high court, have cleared initial stages of appointment and are awaiting clearance by the Centre.
