Auto driver commits suicide over alleged police harassment

A 50-year-old auto driver committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling fan at his residence over an alleged police harassment in Indirapuram area here this morning.
The accused was identified as Prem Sagar, a resident of Nyay Khand area in Indirapuram of the district.
Sagar's relatives alleged he took the extreme step over the harassment by some police officials in connection with a case of his brother-in-law eloping with a girl.
"When Sagar's wife Preeti, along with her daughter, went to the nearby temple in morning, he committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling fan," said a senior police officer.

The officer, however, rejected the charge of police harassment of Prem Sagar. "There is no police brutality with Sagar. However, we are investigating the allegation," he also added.
