Pointing out that energy security and oil are important for the country's future, the minister said it was important that work on alternate fuels and related technology be done in a sustained manner to get over this problem.
Geete was here to inaugurate the Symposium on International Automotive Technology EXPO 2015.
Asserting that India is among the biggest auto markets in the world, Geete said technology upgradation through seven centres of NATRIP (National Automotive Testing and R&D Infrastructure Project) is being done in a phased manner.
Geete also exhorted the automobile industry to face the challenges of competition and advent of new technology.
He said the government will give full support to the auto industry to make it successful and the issues faced by the will get the support of the ministry.
The minister also inaugurated the new facility of Passive Safety Lab here. The EXPO will conclude on January 23.
