The city police, under the supervision of a magistrate, today conducted a post-mortem of the body of the teenager who was killed after allegedly being injured by shards of a liquor bottle during an altercation at writer Amit Chaudhuri's residence.
The entire process of the post-mortem carried out on the body of Abesh Dasgupta was videographed as per the wish of his mother who had written to the Ballygunge Police Station officer-in-charge in this regard, a senior officer of the Kolkata Police said.
However, doctors conducting the post-mortem failed to ascertain the cause of death and the nature of the injury that resulted in a deep cut on Abesh's left-hand armpit and left arm.
Around 9 PM, a team of three autopsy experts visited the scene of crime to ascertain what led to the youth's death.
"There was a laceration on the left armpit of Abesh and that caused hypovolemic shock that resulted in huge blood loss leading to multi-organ failure...But that does not happen when somebody falls on pieces of broken glass...The autopsy report was inconclusive. Doctors are going to the scene of crime to tally their findings and have a final decision after clearing their confusion," he said.
A couple of sleuths from the Kolkata Police Homicide Department accompanied the autopsy surgeons to the scene of crime at the posh Sunny Park apartment in Ballygunge area.
Seventeen-year-old Abesh, a class XI student, was killed yesterday when another youth allegedly injured him with glass shards during a quarrel in the car parking lot of the writer's apartment at upscale Ballygunge after returning from a birthday party at a club.
Most of the youth's friends attending the birthday party, who could be potential witnesses to the whole incident, were absconding, the officer said.
