The decision to give the award to the commandos, who are attached to Thoubal district police, was taken in a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh last evening, the Minister told reporters here.
The state government has also written to the Union Home Minister recommending a CBI probe into the case, he said, adding that the issue had also been brought to the notice of Prime Minister Manmohon Singh.
Five persons including Chaudhury were arrested by the commandos while they were carrying the drugs to the border town of Moreh for smuggling them to neighbouring Myanmar on February 24.
Following interrogation of the five persons, Seikholen Haokip, son of Congress MLA T N Haokip, was also arrested on February 26 last from his house at Deulaland area near here. Four boxes of drugs were recovered from him, sources said.
