Winning awards or being selected for film festivals are not the criteria to judge the quality of films, says award-winning Malayalam director Sajin Baabu.
Baabu's 'Unto The Dusk', which bagged the 'Best Indian Film' award in the recently concluded Bengaluru International Film Festival, was screened in the Competition section of the ongoing International Film Festival of Kerala here today.
"I do not believe that any movie is good just because it has won awards or selected to any film festival. We can say a film is a work of art only if it overcomes the test of time," he said during the 'Meet the Director' segment here on the sidelines of the week-long movie gala.
He said that independent filmmakers were not getting much encouragement in Kerala compared to other states like Maharashtra.
"They have their own mediums to promote up and coming filmmakers. The governments are also very supportive in these states. Kerala government and the Department of Cinema should extend such support to up and coming independent directors," Baabu said.
