The India NGO award is a joint venture between The Rockefellar Foundation and the EdelGive Foundation and is being organized by the Resource Alliance in August.
"We all know that if we change one women's life we have the power to change the family and in turn the community," says Neelam Makhijani, Chief Executive, the Resource Alliance.
This time round the main focus of the award is going to be on organizations who are working in the field to empower women like in the field of health, education, rights, early marriage and female foeticide and so on and so forth.
"We do have an overall focus on women empowerment programs at EdelGive Foundation and this year at the awards we are adding a special category where weightage will be given to the organizations that are looking at specific outcomes for women," says Vidya Shah, Executive Director, EdelGive Foundation.
The EdelGive Foundation has been working in the field of women empowerment and has helped sports women like Mary Kom by providing them financial support through their Olympic Gold Quest Program. Their new agenda for 2016 Olympics is to provide capacity building and funding support.
"We are hoping that Mary Kom will go back. I think she will go back if her weight category is re-introduced because she works best in the lower weight category. She continues to train. We are still hopeful despite everything that is going on with the IOA. We are also supporting two very young athletes one is a badminton player and one is a hurdle sprinter,
