Aware of corruption in welfare schemes in Thane: Minister

Thane Guardian minister and Maharashtra cabinet minister Ganesh Naik here said corruption is involved in several welfare schemes running in the district and that officials concerned are taking steps to curb it.
Presiding over a meeting of District Planning Committee here yesterday, Naik said, "I am aware that at least half of the schemes running in the district are embroiled in corruption. But action is being taken against those involved in it and it will be ensured that people do not suffer."
The issue of mismanagement due to rampant corruption in Rural Water Supply Scheme in some places Murbad, Sahapur in the district was raised during the meeting.
At the meet, Thane Zila Parishad CEO Shekar Gaikwad informed that over 100 FIRs had been registered in connection with cases involving corruption in Government schemes. In several works, payment was made even before their completion.
Naik said primarily, the gram sabha and the local committee, set up for the purpose of allocating contracts and carrying out the work, should be held responsible for any irregularity.
Demand to connect Bhiwandi and Kalyan through monorail was also discussed.
Vasai MLA Vivek Pandit raising the issue of the D.Ed College at Jawhar being shifted to Ambernath. He said it was the only college for tribal students of the area and hence it should not be shifted.
